NaHaiWriMo is a daily haiku prompt that is generated through a group on Facebook. National Haiku Writing Month, or NaHaiWriMo, was started in February, 2011 by Michael Dylan Welch, originally intended as an annual month-long haiku writing celebration and exercise, but it proved to be so popular that it has continued each month, with a different prompter. At the July 21st meeting at the Pacific Asia Museum (2 pm), Kathabela will do a presentation on NaHaiWriMo, talk about her artistic journeys with the prompts, and help lead a haiku writing exercise on the prompts. Afterwards, we will have an anonymous haiku workshop on the haiku we have written.
Kathabela is a long-time member of the Southern California Haiku Study Group who was instrumental in helping establish the Pacific Asia Museum as our meeting place. She is the creator and director of Poets on Site, a performance group of poets collaborating with dancers, musicians, artists, and scientists on site of their inspirations. The poetry audio tour Poets on Site created for the permanent collection of the Pacific Asia Museum has won a MUSE award from the American Association of Museums, 2010.

After the meeting, a group of us will be having dinner and then going on to Don Baird's "Light" photography show at the Burbank Martial Arts School, 1600 w. Magnolia in Burbank.
